How To Find the Vehicles Gear Ratio

Following these steps will help you identify your gear ratio for your transmission.

  • You will need to disassemble the transmission
  • Count the teeth on the ring gear of the differential
  • Count the teeth on the pinion gear
  • Divide the ring gear tooth count by the pinion gear tooth count to get your transmission ratio 
    • Example: Ring Gear is 22 Pinion Gear is 5
      • 22/5 = 4.40
